A start-up in Israel called Eatwith is making it possible and convenient for customers to go to private homes for meals.
People who want to host meals advertise through the Eatwith website. The host decides what to serve, how many guests can come, how much to charge, how long the meal lasts, and many other parameters. It’s a family situation in a private home – very different from a restaurant – and generally speaking the guests eat with the hosts.
Guests phone to make an appointment and the meal is at a mutually convenient time. Guests and hosts both benefit from a social cultural experience.
Currently the system is working in Israel and Spain. If you travel to either of those countries, would you be interested in going to someone’s house for dinner? I think it would work very well in Canada too where experiencing international culture through food is already a popular hobby.
How about Japan? How about the Tono area? Do you think this idea might work here?
